Instructional Leadership Development Programme

About the programme

ILDP is our flagship coaching and development programme for school leaders who want to develop their skills and knowledge to ensure there is high-quality instruction in their schools. Using evidence-based instructional leadership concepts and techniques, this programme improves school leaders’ ability to effectively manage the quality of teaching and learning taking place in their classrooms.

Course structure

This is an 18-month programme that covers:

Programme delivery

ILDP is a blended learning format that includes:

Training blocks

Leaders begin their training with a virtual briefing session followed by an in-person training block at the beginning of the June school holidays. Subsequent training takes place monthly on Thursdays/Fridays during the school term.

In-school coaching & mentoring

Following each training session, ILI coaches carry out diagnostic school observations within participants’ schools to ensure implementation of practices learnt in training. Coaches work with leaders to design an action plan that guides improvement of their instructional practices in the school. Throughout the programme the coaches also provide participants with continuous mentoring support.

Virtual peer learning

We conduct four virtual training sessions per year. During the intersessions, participants revisit content presented during training sessions, exchange their ideas and experiences of implementing new techniques in their schools, and share lessons learned with their peers.

On-going support

After the completion of the programme, the coaches remain available for alumni support through our Instructional Leadership Mastery Programme. The coaches facilitate virtual meetings of principal peer groups to meet and discuss curriculum and practice on an ongoing basis. Selected alumni will also be welcomed to facilitate sessions for the next cohort.

Who can apply

Principals, school management teams (SMT), Heads of Department and aspiring school leaders from government schools, low-cost private schools and public-private partnership schools.

“I chose to be part of this programme to improve my school culture.
As an HOD, this programme helped me to narrow the focus on what culture looks like and creating it. Now I can help my educators achieve the best that they can.”

Jodie Williams – Observatory Junior School

James Isaacs
“By doing the ILI programme I was taught and showed how to manage my time and now you find that there is actually enough time to get everything done. Every new or novice teacher that comes to our school is assigned to me for coaching in instructional leadership. Now we have teachers at our school that know exactly what to do in their class to get 100% from their learners. “

“ILI has changed the way in which I coach my teachers from an instructional perspective. Scholar achievement has become a focus in my teachers, as we are learning how to use data, to plan our instruction around our scholars’ needs. #noexcuses.”
